In 1997, five months after Channel 5 popped itself onto our television sets, Sunderland AFC moved into their new home, the Stadium of Light. Through the 2017/18 season the football club commemorated 20 seasons in residence.
Via conversations with fans and staff, it became evident that the mere mention of the term ’20 seasons at the Stadium of Light’ was enough to evoke a strong sense of nostalgia. The phrase stimulated passionate stories of players past and present as well as tales of supporters' journeys over the years. The logo, inspired by this discovery, is a simple solution combining the two key elements of the stadium name and anniversary period.
